Every pie should start with the perfect pie crust.

This is the recipe that most Amish use to make their perfect flaky crusts every pie they make. You will be sure to find yourself able to make it as well!

Cut together:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup Crisco (no alternatives)

Beat together separately:

  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Tble. vinegar

Mix both mixtures together and shape into a smooth ball. Do not over mix. Cut in half and reshape. Roll into pie crust on a flours surface. One half is a good size for a large deep pie pan or one small covered fruit pie, for example. so you should be able to make two large pies or two small coved pies or three small open pies with this amount of dough.
